College Admission Essay Handout Packet Here are 10 tips for how best to accomplish the essay that will help you get accepted. As I got to know him better through our frequent email exchanges, I soon discovered that he had a great sense of humor, in addition to genuine sensitivity. This modification to the test requirement is not intended as an admissions policy shift but is rather a temporary accommodation driven by the current extraordinary circumstances. Your personal insight questions provide context for the rest of your application. Then read the context, and see if youâre fully conveying what you mean. Give the essay some time after youâve written it, and come back to it and read it anew. The idea is to be the key to their lock, and that youâre conveying a proper fit to their school in particular. As such, send unique essays for every school in which you apply. We consider all information provided in your application, including your answers to the personal insight questions. The examples, tips, topics and prompts outlined above should help you rock your college application essay. The University of California system considers you a freshman applicant if you are still in high school or have graduated from high school but have not enrolled in a regular session at any college or university. If you attend a summer session immediately after graduating from high school, you are still considered a freshman applicant. Create a story that showcases your individuality and personal point of view. This is the entire purpose of the essay, as opposed to the rest of the applications process. Donât be afraid to express a personal belief or opinion, as long as it is presented respectfully, with support, and with acknowledgement of the other sideâs perspective. Students are not precluded from taking standardized tests and sending scores if they are able. Doing so can support their statewide UC eligibility, application for certain scholarships, and help them fulfill some University graduation requirements. Students will not be at a disadvantage should they not submit a test score. Transferable courses taken at a community college are awarded extra grade points in the admission process, just as Advanced Placement and certified honors courses are. However, the university limits the number of honors-level courses you can accrue to eight semesters. In addition to the extra grade points earned, units from transferable community college courses are applied toward your UCI degree. When we began discussing ideas for essays, I encouraged him to choose a seemingly mundane event from his everyday life and develop it using his unique humor. As you'll see here (with Mike's permission), he followed my suggestion with smashing success. This year's seven prompts offer a wide variety of approaches for you to display your writing skills. Each one has potential -- either obvious or hidden -- for you to make a meaningful impression on your admission readers. Make sure your personality, attributes and voice come through loud and clear. This time of reflection and thinking about the essay can be the most rewarding. Put something on the page early, and think it over, and make changes without pressure of finishing under an impending deadline. College Admission Essays are an important part of being selected to college in the admission process. Imagine that each school has a unique character that youâre aligning yourself with. The admission essay isnât terribly time consuming, but you want to not be rushed. Write the draft of the essay, and give yourself time to reflect on it.
